Splotsu

Privacy policy

Updated 7 October 2026

Your drawings stay on your device. You can colour without an account, and you can turn usage sharing off.

Splotsu is made and operated by Jamie Druitt, who is responsible for the information described here. This policy covers the Splotsu app, this website and support enquiries. Contact support@splotsu.com with questions or requests.

Current app version: this page describes version 1.0 from build 865 onwards, including build 868 submitted to the App Store. Find your build number in Settings > About. Earlier TestFlight builds, including build 850, also sent individual drawing identifiers, app lifecycle and timed-break events, and colouring activity while Parents Mode was on when usage sharing was enabled. Updating the app does not delete information already sent.

Your drawings

Drawings and app settings are saved on your device. Splotsu does not upload your drawing images or brush strokes, and it has no account or cloud drawing library. Device backups, if enabled, are handled by Apple under your device settings.

Usage sharing in the app

When Share usage data is on, Splotsu sends limited usage information to PostHog Cloud EU to understand which canvases and tools people use and to improve the app. Outside Parents Mode, this includes:

The random identifiers allow activity to be linked over time, so this is pseudonymous usage data rather than completely anonymous data. Splotsu does not supply PostHog with your name, email address, Apple Account, contacts, photos or drawing content. Session recording, automatic screen capture, automatic app lifecycle events and advertising tracking are disabled. Timed-break activity is not reported.

Our PostHog project is configured to discard client IP data. The app also disables location lookup from IP addresses and removes the time zone from analytics events. PostHog still receives network requests in order to process the information.

Your choice

Open Settings > Privacy > Share usage data to turn sharing off. Colouring continues to work.

Sharing is on by default. Turning it off stops new analytics collection and shuts down the analytics service in the app. It cannot recall a request already sent. Events already queued on the device are not sent while sharing is off; they may be sent if you turn sharing back on. Turning it off does not automatically delete information that was sent earlier.

Children and Parents Mode

While Parents Mode is on, colouring activity, app lifecycle events, timed-break activity and launch settings snapshots are not reported. If usage sharing is on, deliberate settings changes, including Parents Mode and the break length, are sent with the installation identifier and technical information described above. Turn Share usage data off to stop those reports too. Splotsu does not ask for a child’s name or age. An adult should turn usage sharing off before giving a child a shared device. Parents Mode is off by default. While it is enabled, Settings is protected by the parent gate. Device authentication or the arithmetic challenge is a device control; it does not verify age or establish parental consent to analytics.

Support and this website

If you email us, we receive your email address and anything you include, such as your name, a description of a problem or an attachment. We use that information to answer your enquiry and resolve the issue, on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing support. Please avoid sending personal information that isn’t needed.

This website has no advertising, analytics scripts or contact form. Our hosting and network providers process ordinary connection information, such as IP addresses and request details, to deliver the pages and protect the service. We use Cloudflare Pages for website hosting and delivery. Processing needed to deliver and protect the website serves our legitimate interest in operating a secure service. Cloudflare Email Routing forwards support messages to a mailbox hosted by Apple; your message is not sent to PostHog.

How information is used and shared

We use information to provide support, understand use of Splotsu and operate the service. We do not sell it, use it for targeted advertising or combine it with TalkLife account information. Service providers, including PostHog and our hosting and email providers, process information to provide their services. Information may also be disclosed where legally required. We do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you by automated means.

App analytics use PostHog’s EU hosting region. Providers may also process information in other countries. Their published terms describe safeguards for international transfers, including standard contractual clauses where applicable. Contact us for details or copies of safeguards relevant to your information. You can read PostHog’s privacy notice, PostHog’s data-processing terms, Cloudflare’s privacy policy and Apple’s privacy policy.

Keeping and deleting information

Drawings remain on your device until you delete them or remove the app’s data. Deleting the app does not automatically delete analytics already sent to PostHog.

Our current paid PostHog plan permits queries over up to seven years of events. This is a query window, not an automatic deletion guarantee, and we have not configured a shorter automatic deletion schedule. The criteria for keeping usage records are whether they are still needed to compare app releases, understand canvas and feature use, or investigate an issue. Read PostHog’s explanation of retention. Support correspondence is kept for as long as needed to handle the enquiry and any related issues or legal requirements.

You can ask us about access, correction, deletion, restriction or a portable copy of personal information, by emailing support@splotsu.com. The rights that apply depend on your location and circumstances. Since app analytics are not associated with your name or email, we may need additional information to locate an installation’s records. The current app does not display its analytics identifier. We will explain whether we can locate the records and what is needed to help without collecting unnecessary information.

Your right to object: you can object to processing based on legitimate interests, including our use of support correspondence and website connection information, by contacting support@splotsu.com.

You can also raise a concern with your local data-protection authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office. You do not need to contact us first.

Purchases and changes

Splotsu is free and has no adverts, subscriptions or in-app purchases. We update this policy when our handling of information changes and show the revision date at the top.
